WWE icon Bill Goldberg hosts OKC Charity Fight Night
OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) - Wheeler Middle School students were star struck after Bill Goldberg, better known as just “Goldberg” paid them a visit Thursday morning.
"It's like my first time seeing someone famous like that,” said Damian Briseno, a 6th grade student.
The WWE icon, actor and former NFL defensive tackle is hosting the OKC Charity Fight Night, benefiting the Oklahoma City Police Athletic League.
"It's truly an honor and a privilege, and I would never miss this opportunity,” said Goldberg.
The nonprofit is dedicated to reducing crime by providing safe and healthy alternatives for children from high-risk neighborhoods.
"The PAL program provides sports and after school mentoring and a chess club and a STEM club and all kinds of things for our fifth and sixth graders,” said Capt. Michelle Henderson with OKCPD. “And then our after school is all the way up to high school and all of that is done at no cost. So, we have to have money to support the program.”
Before the event, Goldberg took the time to share the value of teamwork with students.
"The ability to work together as a team teaches you much more than the team concept. It teaches you about life. It teaches you that you don't need to accomplish everything on your own,” said Goldberg.
He said it was a full circle moment.
"I was one of those kids, you know, and without the people that came in and told me the things to look forward to and the things to strive for, I may have been in a different place and I may not have been as successful as I've been able to be,” said Goldberg.
Goldberg also stopped by Capitol Hill Middle School Thursday morning.
OKC Charity Fight Night is Thursday at 8:30 p.m. at the Criterion.
