Oklahoma homicide suspect arrested in Fort Smith
FORT SMITH, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — An arrest has been made in connection with a homicide that occurred on Jan. 16, according to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.
Pocola police responded to an abandoned home near Butler Avenue and Clark Avenue around 12:30 p.m.
Once on the scene, officers found the body of Jaybriel Montgomery, 24. OSBI said Montgomery had suffered from a gunshot wound. His body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for further testing and evaluation.
OSBI special agents later identified the suspect in the case as Parker Maxwell Smith, 24. A first-degree murder warrant was issued for Smith by the LeFlore County District Court.
Smith was located in Fort Smith on Jan. 31 and arrested by the Fort Smith Police Department. He was booked into the Sebastian County Jail and extradited to LeFlore County.
Sebastian County records show Smith was arrested in 2020 on fleeing charges, however, they were dismissed in 2024.
OSBI said the investigation is ongoing and it thanks the Pocola Police Department, Leflore County Sheriff's Office, and the Fort Smith Police Department for their assistance.
