OSDE investigating alleged abuse at Hugo Public Schools
OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — The Oklahoma State Department of Education is investigating allegations of abuse at the Hugo School District, according to a press release sent out Saturday afternoon.
According to OSDE, the investigation comes after local law enforcement received a complaint of alleged repeat infractions, leading to immediate action being taken.
“I am deeply troubled by the allegations out of Hugo today, and greatly appreciate local law enforcement for immediately bringing the issue to our attention,” said State Superintendent Ryan Walters. “OSDE is reviewing the allegations and the employees in question have been removed from the school while we conduct our investigation. Let me be loud and clear: the safety of Oklahoma students is our top priority, and our public schools and their employees will have the resources they need to protect students."
According to a statement posted to social media on Friday from Hugo Public Schools Superintendent Brandy Blalock, the district received an allegation of misconduct involving five employees, and those five employees were placed on administrative leave and are not on campus.
Dear Hugo school family:
I am writing to share accurate information about a situation district adminstrators and law enforcement officals are currently addressing.
Recently, we received an allegation of misconduct by five Hugo school employees. The school district is conducting an internal investigation and cooperating with law enforcement. Because this is a personnel matter, I am unable to share additional information at this time — except that the employees involved have been placed on administrative leave and are not on campus.
There is nothing more important to Hugo Public Schools than the well-being of our students. Their safety is our greatest responsibility and utmost priority. We are committed to providing them with a positive learning environment each and every day.
It is never easy to share concerning news about school issues; however, I want you to know I will always communicate as openly and transparently as possible with our school family. When we work together, we can ensure we provide the best and safest educational experience for all students.
Thank you for your support of Hugo Public Schools.
Sincerely,
Superintendent Brandy Blalock
