OU Motel residents move to a new location after property management company offers help
NORMAN, Okla. (KFOR) — The deadline has passed for people living at the OU Motel in Norman, but thankfully another company decided to step in and offer help.
It's been just over a month since residents at the OU Motel were told they had to move out by February 1st leaving most worried that they would not be able to find anything affordable.
"I originally heard about this story from your guys' news station, actually and I was sitting at home and I heard about it and I knew that there was a need in our community and that we could help with that," said Brook Myers, Regional Manager for Winfield Property Management. "We have a wide range of prices. So, we were able to help 14 families that lived here that were going to be displaced and homeless."
Seth Houston and his family are among those 14 families.
"The biggest weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I don't have to worry about my boys now. That's the main thing, the kids," said Houston.
Houston is a father of four. He said times have been tough for his family lately and being forced to move couldn't be more of an inconvenience.
"We've been homeless for the last year. We're trying to find work. It's hard to find work when you're moving around and trying to work for boys and everything else," said Houston.
Houston and his family will get to move into a new place owned by Winfield Property Management on Friday.
"I appreciate everybody that's helped us," said Houston.
"It's just, you know, an honor to help these people and it's a blessing that we were able to help them and help our community and that's just what community is about for sure," said Myers.
Winfield Property Management also hired two people that lived in the motel and were going to be homeless and unemployed.
