Body cam footage shows police finding burglary, rape suspect

NORMAN, Okla. (KFOR) — New body camera video shows when Norman Police officers spotted a man wanted for multiple home burglaries and an alleged rape in Norman. Court documents say he has broken into homes 15 times since last year.

Landon Appleby was arrested at the end of January in connection to the crimes.

"Y'all can't do me like this man. Mom's gonna be mad at me and everything man," said Landon Appleby on the body camera footage.

Norman Police said they started receiving reports last September.

"An RP provided us with information that she had been asleep in her residence and that an unknown male with no shirt had been in her bedroom. She woke up, they made eye contact, the individual ran out of her residence," said Sarah Schettler.

During one of the break-ins, police said he also allegedly raped someone. The affidavit explains the victim thought Appleby was her husband until she woke up.

New body camera footage released by police shows officers searching for Appleby around a complex in Norman.

The footage later highlights the moments officers spotted Appleby and chased after him.

"I got him running southbound through the duplexes...stop," one of the officers said on the video.

The chase continued through the complex and police eventually took him down.

"I was literally going home from Burger King going through these apartments," said Appleby on the video.

The affidavit said during an interview with police, Appleby admitted to the burglaries and claimed he was trying to steal money. He also admitted to raping the victim.

Appleby is booked in the Cleveland County Detention Center on one count of first-degree rape and multiple other burglary counts.

He's set to make a court appearance in March.
