Metro father killed by suspected drunk driver
OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — A metro father has died after he was hit by a car while riding his motorcycle. The tragic accident happened just minutes after he left work early Saturday morning.
"He's one of the good ones and we all want him back," said Chad Gruver, a longtime friend of Beau Acton.
Beau Acton and his colleagues said goodbye early Saturday morning, not knowing it would be their last interaction.
"He took off and went left out of here like he always did; and that was at 3:13 Friday night, Saturday morning. And I saw on the news that the call came in at 3:15. Two minutes later," said Reba Williams, Beau Acton's friend and coworker.
Beau left on his motorcycle, but only made it down the street.
Police said he was hit by a drunk driver and didn't have a helmet on.
"No one called the family. The family found out from the news actually. They realized that was his bike," said Williams.
Beau was rushed to the hospital where he later died.
As a single dad of two boys, Beau's family said the past few days have been heartbreaking.
"It's been very, very rough when you lose the patriarch of the family," said Gruver.
Police arrested Jennica Burton for DUI. In the report, officers said she "exhibited signs of intoxication."
The tragic night is something Beau's friends wish would have never happened.
"He's really good at keeping this place together and it's never gonna be the same again," said Williams.
"I figured I would just call him tomorrow and tomorrow didn't come for him," said Gruver.
Along with DUI, Burton is also facing manslaughter charges.
Beau's family and friends are having a memorial night this Friday at 8 p.m. to honor him at Platinum Nights, the nightclub where he worked. The address is 7700 WP Bill Atkinson Blvd in Oklahoma City.
They've also set up a meal train and donation site for Beau's sons and family.
