OKC contractors work to fix 3-foot deep sinkhole
OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — Crews are working to figure out what left a huge sinkhole in southwest Oklahoma City.
"It’s a sinkhole," said Shannon Cox with OKC Public Works.
The giant pit sits at Southwest 134th and Penn. It's about 3 feet deep and 4-5 feet wide.
Cox said sinkholes are created when something beneath the roadway collapses, leaving behind a big hole. The city first spotted the issue on Friday.
When News 4 first rolled up, cones were in place and a worker was measuring the damage.
A few minutes later...
"Crews showed up today and we’re going to start working on it," said Cox.
The city said the crews working on the sink hole are contractors on standby for emergency situations like this.
The city knows it's near a sewer line, however, the true cause of this hole mystery is still buried until crews start moving some earth.
The city said repairs could take a couple of weeks. So, if you drive through the area, just be patient.
"It may be a little painful, but it’ll be back to normal," said Cox.
