Group delivers letter asking questions to Rep. Tom Cole’s Norman office
NORMAN, Okla. (KFOR) — On Monday morning, the group “Women in Action for All” wrote a letter and delivered it to U.S. Rep. Tom Cole’s local office in Norman in hopes that he will answer some of their questions.
The women also rallied outside his office hoping those chants will ring all the way to Washington.
"He is 76. And I want to say, what do you want your legacy to be?" Rhonda Stock said.
Stock is the chair of the organization that she says normally focuses on local politics. However, amid recent controversial federal layoffs nationally, they wanted to change that. So, they put together a letter for Cole.
"We just want to let him know that we do not agree with his following the new administration's policies,” Stock said.
It spells out their issues with recent actions.
"Contrary to law, Musk and Trump have given themselves the power to impound revenue duly appropriated by Congress,” protestor Judith Lewis said.
It also asks for three things.
- For Cole to hold town hall meetings.
- Insist on the power of the House Appropriations Committee
- For Cole to support an investigation into Elon Musk’s recent actions.
After rallying outside, they delivered the letter to the office where a representative answered the door.
"Thank you for coming by and thank you for delivering this and I'll make sure and get it to the Congressman,” the representative said after speaking with them for a moment.
Last Friday, Cole released a statement saying he was aware of the concerns for layoffs at Tinker Air Force Base, but he added that they never received confirmation and were staying in touch. When KFOR sent him information given to us indicating that layoffs were happening, we never received a revised statement.
"We want him to listen to us,” Stock said.
KFOR reached out to Cole’s D.C. house government email to make sure he got their letter and to see if their would be a response. We also asked for a revised comment on the developments at Tinker. We are waiting to hear back.
