OG&E Coliseum at the OKC Fairgrounds on track to open this summer
OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) - The OG&E Coliseum at the OKC Fairgrounds is taking shape. On Wednesday, project leaders said it’s still on track to open this summer.
”Look how cool it is,” said Kirk Slaughter, the President and CEO, Oklahoma State Fair, Inc. and OKC Fairgrounds.
Since our last tour in July of 2024, seats have been installed as well as some of the arena’s lights.
"As you walk through you don't have to have blueprints to see what the rooms are,” said David Todd, MAPS Program Manager for the City of Oklahoma City. “You can just look at them and tell what it is by the equipment or the finishes that are in there.”
On Wednesday, our crew also got a look at the progress made on the kitchen, restrooms, lounge area and concession stands.
"You can sit here and watch what's going on on the floor. These are drink rails, right? They'll have chairs there. You can even plug in your phone and charge it,” said Slaughter. “So it's very much for the guests. The guest experience will be pretty amazing here."
The more than 216,000 square foot coliseum will replace the Jim Norick Arena. Depending on the event, it’ll have between 7,500 and 8,500 seats.
"When we open this thing up this summer, we already have some major horse shows in here, and we're pretty much full up until about Christmas next year,” said Slaughter.
Indoor soccer games will also be played at the coliseum. It is set to open July 1, 2025.
