OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) - The Oklahoma City Animal Shelter is reducing adoption fees to help combat overcrowding.
According to the shelter, adoption fees for dogs six months and older will be waived until Saturday, June 14. Puppies five months and younger with have a reduced fee of $30. All adoptable dogs have been spayed or neutered, microchipped, heartworm tested, vaccinated, dewormed and will be sent home with a collar and ID tag.
“Oklahoma City Animal Welfare has been operating at or above capacity for several years,” said OKC Animal Shelter Superintendent Ronnie Schlabs.
Besides adoption, there are other ways for the community to get involved. Rescue groups and transfer partners are encouraged to consider fostering. You can sign up to foster for learn more at OKC.gov.
“To ensure the health and well-being of the animals in our care and to maintain a sustainable shelter environment, we are asking the community to help us place as many dogs as possible this week. Currently, we have 175 dogs ready to find their forever homes.” said Schlabs.
Officials say anyone who finds a stray should call the Animal Welfare dispatch at 405-297-2255 instead of trying to catch the animal. Trained officers will respond to safely catch the animal.
