Oklahoma County Commissioner gives bridge repair update
LUTHER, Okla. (KFOR) — Several metro drivers are having to find a new way around while a bridge in need of repairs has an entire road shut down.
The county tells News 4 that they are working on a fix, but they have run into a lot of problems.
"I grew up out in that area, so I'm well aware of the shape the roads are in," said Myles Davidson, Oklahoma County Commissioner of District 3.
Davidson is addressing the ongoing problems that many in Luther and the surrounding areas have faced for years.
The latest problem, a bridge that is in shambles.
"This one actually has some old wooden post and beam structure around it, and during the wildfires that we just recently had, it actually burnt down," Davidson said.
Months have gone by, but still no repairs have been made.
"Concrete boxes that will be going back in with ultimately or on a six-month delay right now," Davidson said.
News 4 asked what is causing the delay, and if a temporary repair could be made.
"I have no idea if tariffs have anything to do with that or not," Davidson said. "I mean, it's just concrete and it's on six-month delay. That means I've got to go out and do something. We're going to start next week doing some immediate repairs just to reopen and make it safe and passable again until we can get in there and ultimately fix that properly."
Davidson adds that repeated rounds of severe weather have set them back, too.
There is another issue drivers face: more potholes brought on by heavy rain.
"Any time that they have potholes or anything of that sort in that area, please call us 405-713-1503," Davidson said. "Tell us at any point and we'll be out there immediately."
Davidson said they can only fix what they know needs it.
"I answer back in 24 hours or less," Davidson said. "So, any time I get notified by email or if we get a call from a constituent or anything of that sort, we turn around and we go."
As for the bridge, Davidson says crews should begin work on a temporary fix next week, but adds it may be a couple more weeks before the road is open again.
