STRONGSVILLE, Ohio (WJW) — The Fox 8 I-Team of Nexstar's WJW has learned Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders was pulled over early Tuesday morning for allegedly driving over 100 mph.
According to police records out of Strongsville, Ohio, about 20 miles outside of Cleveland, an officer stopped Sanders at around 12:24 a.m. on June 17. A report alleges Sanders was driving 101 mph, 41 miles over the posted speed limit.
He was issued a citation. He can choose to fight the ticket in court, or he can pay a fine.
The I-Team obtained the below video of the traffic stop.
Sanders was drafted by the Browns in Round 5 of the NFL Draft. The Browns did not immediately respond to a request for comment Wednesday.
Shortly after arriving in Cleveland, Sanders, the son of NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, visited a local high school to speak with students and answer questions. He encouraged students to make good decisions and to listen to their parents.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol says last year, more than 83,000 people were given tickets for speeding 20 miles over the speed limit, and more than 3,700 received tickets for going over 100 miles per hour.
The I-Team has done several stories on drivers speeding over 100 mph, including a city firefighter who was clocked driving at 117 mph. Judy Converse has spoken for the Ohio Traffic Safety Office, saying, “There is no excuse for extreme speeds.”
