Alex Caruso works 'shift', greets fans at NW Oklahoma City Cane's
OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) - It's not every day you get to see a Thunder superstar while stopping for lunch. Some fans got that opportunity at a Northwest Oklahoma City Canes while Alex Caruso was there to serve up some fried chicken.
He stepped outside his element, off the court, and behind the counter Thursday for a quick shift. It may not be playing pesky defense or slamming the rock through the hoop, but he was still a natural at giving out food to Thunder fans in the community who were still elated after the team made Oklahoma City a title town.
"Doing stuff like this or doing stuff through the Thunder Cares program and getting out in the communities is easy for us because they show up for us," Caruso said.
He hit the drive-through and took a few orders up front, where some fans took pictures and got autographs. Outside, others showed up in full force to support him.
"Caruso is one of the best mentality players, and he brings so much energy to the squad," Thunder fan C.J. Thomas said.
"He's an amazing player. I think his stats are very much hidden, but he's what makes the difference on that team," Thunder fan Elena Johnson said.
The support is something he said definitely doesn't go unnoticed by the squad.
"It's tangible, it's real, and you can feel it," Caruso said. "So, I think all the guys on the team are very, very mature for their age and understanding how special that is."
Whether it's on the court or not, though, his actions and those on the team overall are motivating to fans far and wide.
"The Thunder like inspired me to play basketball," Thomas said. "My dream is to make it to the NBA."
Caruso greeted the fans outside on a stage after working his "shift." He signed a few autographs and gave some high-fives before heading out.
