Police say a 3-year-old boy is dead after he was found unresponsive in a pond
EDMOND, Okla. (KFOR) - A toddler died after he was found in an Edmond pond Saturday afternoon.
The pond is at Coffee Creek Apartments near W 15th Street and S Kelly Road.
Those who live at the apartment complex say they are devastated.
"My heart goes out to the parents. I just feel so bad," says Tamara Harris, apartment resident.
Police say around two in the afternoon, a teenager fishing at the pond saw what he believed to be a small child in the water.
"I could just imagine how he would feel having to see that, you know, just his young age, having to save a little kid or even, you know, just be out there while it's happening, it's just terrible," said Eric Lawrence, apartment resident.
Edmond Fire pulled the little boy out of the water and started CPR.
Police say the father was found after the child was taken to the hospital.
Lawrence says he talked to him.
"I seen the father when he ran back over here, and he told me what was going on. He actually was the one that let me know. So when he said that, I was just, like, broken because I have a little son and kids too," said Lawrence.
Police tell News 4 the little boy died soon after.
It is unclear what led up to the child's drowning. Edmond Police are investigating.
