Local government officials in the Western Province of Herat say that over the past two years, more than 200 historical artifacts have been discovered.

The Bakhtar News Agency, a media outlet close to the Taliban administration, citing Abdul Jabbar Nowruzi, the director of museums and archives of the Information and Culture Directorate in Herat province, has reported that they have discovered 215 historical artifacts from this province in the past two years.

Mr. Nowruzi added that these artifacts have been handed over to the Herat Museum, but no explanation regarding their historical significance and nature has been given.

The Taliban authorities continue to announce the donation of about 300 other historical artifacts by cultural enthusiasts to the Herat Provincial Museum, while the claim of Atiqullah Azizi, the deputy minister of information and culture of the Taliban government, that more than 60,000 historical artifacts are preserved in the National Museum.

It is worth mentioning that Mr. Azizi had previously requested assistance from the Japanese government in enriching and constructing a new building for the National Museum of Afghanistan.

Historical artifacts in Afghanistan have largely been destroyed or lost due to years of war and insecurity, and significant study has not been conducted in the exploration and investigation of historical artifacts so far.
