The Ministry of Refugees and Repatriations states that over 2,000 Afghan migrants have been expelled from Iran.
On Wednesday, April 24th, the ministry announced in a statement that a total of 2,783 Afghan migrants returned to the country after being expelled by Iran.
According to the statement, these migrants entered Afghanistan through the Islam Qala border crossing on Monday.
The Ministry of Refugees and Repatriations added that the returning migrants include both families and individuals.
On Sunday, the ministry also reported the return of 2,651 migrants who had been expelled from Iran.
The Ministry of Refugees and Repatriations is reporting the return of migrants from Iran amid a recent increase in the expulsion of Afghan migrants from Iran, especially Pakistan, in recent months.
Forced deportations from Iran and Pakistan coincide with Afghanistan’s dire humanitarian crisis. Expelled migrants encounter numerous challenges, including inadequate medical care, access to clean water, housing, and employment opportunities.
