The Afghanistan Media Support Organization has condemned the arrest of journalist Mohammad Agha Sailani by Pakistani police in Faisal Town, Islamabad, calling it a violation of press freedom and refugee rights.

The group said Sailani faces possible deportation to Afghanistan while Pakistani authorities have yet to explain the reason for his detention.

It warned that such actions breach international refugee conventions and endanger Afghan journalists living in Pakistan.

Local reports say Pakistani police have intensified operations against Afghan refugees, including journalists, in Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

The organization urged his “immediate and unconditional” release, calling on the international community to act before more Afghan journalists face similar risks.
