Chelsea Finally Submit Caicedo Offer
The highest profile transfer saga of the summer looks like it could be reaching a conclusion, with Chelsea finally submitting an offer for Moises Caicedo after almost three days of dallyinh.
The Stamford Bridge club had been linked with a move for the Brighton midfielder all summer, but it looked like Liverpool had stolen the player at the last minute when the Reds had a £111 million bid accepted.
A medical for the player was already booked, but despite the club insisting they acted on the indication that the player would be open to a move, Caicedo’s camp decided to hold out to see if Chelsea could also come up with an acceptable offer.
With question marks surrounding Chelsea’s financial ability to make such a bid, a waiting game played out over the weekend, with fans of both clubs positing that the player would be theirs.
Finally though news broke that a bid had come, with The Athletic‘s David Ornstein reporting that the Blues will pay up to £115 million for the 21-year-old.
A medical is reportedly booked for today, leaving Liverpool to turn their attention elsewhere in their hunt for a defensive midfielder.
To make matters worse, it appears Chelsea may well also land former target Romeo Lavia, with the London club reportedly having a £55 million bid for the Belgian midfielder accepted.
The club would have no doubt had more targets in mind beyond Caicedo and Lavia, and will now likely have to look at one of those options. It seems unfathomable that Liverpool would consider going into the season without a recognised number six in the squad, and whilst the player may not be the club’s first or second choice a new arrival is surely on the cards.
