'Big Cat Show' coming to Topeka this weekend
TOPEKA (KSNT) - A 'Big Cat Show' is coming to Topeka this weekend.
This weekend, the Ramada by Wyndham in downtown Topeka is holding a cat show. Patrons can see up to 150 purebred and house cats compete for various prizes.
The event is being sponsored by the Midwest Region of Cat Fanciers' Association (CFA). The group showcases the best cats they've seen on their website. The group also gives special awards to Midwesterners who've shown dedication to the event over the years.
The CFA Midwest region includes Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin.
Event organizers say there are some 'pet me cats' that crave being petted.
The event announcement on social media said personal pets aren't allowed unless they've been pre-registered. Pets must have specific vaccinations, health checks and more. Organizers say this is for the safety of your cat and others.
According to the event listing, there will be several cat-related vendors with unique items, some exhibitors may have kittens or adults for sale and they say food for people won't be available at the venue.
The cat show starts at 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 10 at 420 SE Sixth St. and goes until 4 p.m. The event resumes at 9 a.m. till 4 p.m. on Aug. 11.
Attendees can buy tickets at the door. Tickets cost $15 for adults, $10 for seniors, $5 for children 5-12 years old. Children under 4 can get in for free. A special family pack for two adults and two children is also available for $30.
