The #LUFC Breakfast Debate (Friday 15th March) Leeds table £7m bid for explosive right-back
Good Morning. It's Friday 15th March, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road...
Leeds table £7m bid for explosive right-back
Multiple media reports suggest Leeds have tabled a £7m bid for Nigerian International Bright Osayi-Samuel. The versatile 26 year old applies his trade with Super Lig outfit Fenerbahçe. He is predominantly a right back but can also play right wing. His explosive pace and physical strength have earned him a following amongst scouts from all over Europe.
Osayi-Samuel came through the youth ranks at Blackpool, before signing for QPR in 2017. After four years, and 103 appearances he made the move to Istanbul, which is where his career has taken off. Leeds face interest from Wolves, Crystal Palace and Rennes, but are the only club thus far to put their money where their mouth's are. It is believed that Osayi-Samuel favours a move back to England in the Summer, though much will depend on what division Leeds find themselves in!
How would Osayi-Samuel's arrival effect squad dynamics
If Osayi-Samuel joins in the Summer, how will this effect the squad dynamics?
Currently Archie Gray is doing an admiral job at right-back, but we all know where his true talents lie! The prospect of an Ampadu / Gray midfield is a mouth watering prospect, and if Rutter can continue to create big chances, they could be a force to be reckoned with should they win promotion to the promised land.
Where does this leave Connor Roberts? Media reports this morning suggest Leeds have already submitted an offer to Burnley for the 28 year old Welsh International. Whilst a move 40 miles down the road makes sense for Roberts, do Leeds really want Burnley's cast offs?
Southgate eyeing possible Gray call-up
Gareth Southgate namechecked Archie Gray as being among the standout young players emerging in the Three Lions this season. Speaking after the latest squad announcement for the upcoming internationals against Brazil and Belgium, the England gaffer suggested Gray could earn a promotion to the senior squad sooner rather than later, even though he has yet to make an U21 appearance for Lee Carsley's side.
There are some players with the under-21s, especially in midfield, who are doing exceptionally well. Especially in the midfield with the likes of Kobbie Mainoo, Harvey Elliott, Rico [Lewis] was with us last time, Archie Gray at Leeds is doing very, very well I have to say. So there are a number of players that we could move in, which would mess up what Carsley's trying to do with his squad, it's most important that we have depth with the seniors.
