Sports briefs: San Marin, Tam standouts advance to semifinals
San Marin High’s Devanshi Shrestha and Tam’s Chloe Mouret-Lafage both won two matches at San Ramon Valley High on Tuesday to advance to the semifinals of the North Coast Section Division I singles tournament.
Shrestha and Mouret-Lafage met in the MCAL singles final earlier this postseason and are on opposite sides of the NCS bracket.
Shrestha took down California’s Sachika Kamath in the first round then defeated Campolindo’s Bridgette Sieckert in the quarterfinals.
Mouret-Lafage defeated Castro Valley’s Isabella Huskic Cao in the first round then Dublin’s Maya Peav in the quarterfinals. Mouret-Lafage is set to face San Ramon Valley’s Monika Tekic in the semifinals.
Redwood’s doubles team of Julia Povio and Alessia Balliet, the MCAL champions this season, won their first match before falling in the quarterfinals. Tam’s tam of Bianco Botero-Cortes and Maya Riisgaard were eliminated in the first round.
Girls soccer
Ryder Higgins Jones scored following a corner taken by Darby Fones as San Rafael (1-0-0) opened the season with a 1-0 home victory against Santa Rosa on Monday night.
Girls basketball
Novato (0-1) opened up the season with a 50-23 home loss to Casa Grande on Monday night.
Men’s golf
Marin Catholic grad Theo Anderson, a freshman golfer at the University of San Francisco, shot a course record 11-under 61 at the Corica Park South Course in Alameda on Saturday, Nov. 15. Saturday. His round was the lowest scorecard ever recorded by two strokes.
Anderson, the 2022 and 2025 MCAL Boys Player of the Year, played in four fall tournaments for the Dons.
Girls cross country
Mill Valley’s Kennedy Foster ran a personal-best 18 minutes, 46.9 seconds to finish fourth at the Central Coast Section Division III championships over the weekend. Foster is a freshman with St. Ignatius.
The Wildcats took first place, with sophomore Eliot Marsh leading the way in third place, followed by Farrah Almajdalani in sixth, and Bella Riesenfeld in 13th.
