Assemblymember Ahrens hosting inaugural Holiday Open House

State Assemblymember Patrick Ahrens is holding his inaugural Holiday Open House on Dec. 12, 5:30-7:30 p.m., in the Homestead High School cafeteria, 21370 Homestead Road, Cupertino. Free food distribution

Residents who need groceries can attend a free food distribution Dec. 17, 4:15-5:15 p.m., in the Columbia Middle School parking lot, 739 Morse Ave.

Hosted by the Columbia Neighborhood Center with Second Harvest of Silicon Valley, the program is open to everyone; proof of income is not required. New families must register on the day of distribution. The distribution uses a farmers’ market model; participants park and walk in and should bring reusable bags for produce and a cart for dry and canned goods, eggs, milk and more. Each family will receive about 100 lbs. of food.

The food distributions are held the fourth Wednesday of each month. Future dates are Jan. 28 and Feb. 25, 2026. For information, email CNC@sunnyvale.ca.gov or call 408-730-7800.

Adult ed classes

Registration is open for winter/spring 2026 classes at Silicon Valley Adult Education. Students can enroll in programs that build job skills, earn high school diplomas equivalencies or prepare for higher education, including academic and career technical education courses, California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids (CalWORKs) and the Silicon Valley Regional Testing Center.
