Former US President Bill Clinton admitted to hospital
Former US President Bill Clinton, 78, has been hospitalized after coming down with a fever.
Clinton was taken to MedStar Georgetown University Hospital from his home in Washington, DC.
‘President Clinton was admitted to Georgetown University Medical Center this afternoon for testing and observation after developing a fever,’ wrote his deputy chief of staff Angel Ureña on X (formerly Twitter) at 5.40pm ET on Monday.
‘He remains in good spirits and deeply appreciates the excellent care he is receiving.’
Ureña told CNN that ‘the president is fine’ and hopes to be discharged from the hospital by Christmas.
A source told NBC News that Clinton was awake and alert, and that his condition was not urgent.
America’s 42nd president, a Democrat, campaigned for his party’s 2024 presidential nominee, Kamala Harris, for a few weeks in the fall. That included speaking at a Harris campaign rally at a union event in August, Georgia, two days before the November election.
Clinton has experienced some health issues after leaving the White House in 2001.
In 2004, Clinton had quadruple bypass heart surgery and in 2010 received two stents to open an artery. He was hospitalized in California in 2021 for a urinary tract infection that entered his bloodstream.
Clinton has suffered skin cancers, allergies, cysts and issues with his hearing.
He lost some weight and appeared to be healthier after switching to a diet that was mostly vegan.
Clinton served two presidential terms from January 1993 to January 2001.
On November 19, Clinton released his latest book, Citizen: My Life After the White House, which became a New York Times bestseller.
‘I’ve always been inspired by the people who decide, against all odds, to put one foot in front of the other. CITIZEN shares some of those stories — and how we can all find ways to begin again to create better tomorrows,’ Clinton wrote on X on December 13.
