‘Missing woman’s remains found in a family’s front lawn’

A family made a grisly discovery of human remains in their front yard that may belong to a missing woman from another US state.

The homeowner in the Cooper Heights area of northwest Georgia called cops after an animal brought bones to the front lawn the day after Christmas.

Several bones have preliminarily been identified as belonging to Timaya Williams, 23, who was reported missing roughly 225 miles away in Montgomery, Alabama, in June 2024, according to the Walker County Sheriff’s Office.

The woman’s mother, Yaschia Williams, said that her daughter appeared in CCTV footage leaving her home on June 2 and never returned.

‘I am desperately seeking help for my daughter,’ the mom wrote on a GoFundMe page at the time.

‘Timaya struggles with mental health issues, which I communicated to the authorities, yet they failed to issue a silver alert or provide information on her vehicle’s whereabouts, only airing her case on August 22nd after a paperwork mix-up delayed their response.’

Yaschia added that a few organizations offered support but that she was advised to hire a private investigator and did not have the funds to pay for one.

County detectives deployed a cadaver K-9 team to search for the associated remains and found the rest of the skeleton. An autopsy is being conducted by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

Timaya’s car was found abandoned on Highway 193 and she likely killed herself, said Walker County Sheriff Steve Wilson.

No foul play is currently suspected in the case.

The human remains were found more than two months after a human head and hands discovered inside a freezer at a Colorado home were identified as belonging to a teenage girl who disappeared 19 years ago. It took nine months for the girl, who was believed to be around 16 years old when she vanished, to be identified.
