Mystery solved over why pink supercar has vanished after five years parked outside hotel
The mystery over the disappearance of a pink McLaren parked outside of a London hotel has been solved as Metro can reveal what happened to it.
The £150,000 supercar caused a storm on social media several years ago after it seemed not to move from its parking spot outside the London Renaissance Hotel at King’s Cross for several years.
However over the last week baffled locals have clocked the car is no longer a fixture at the front of the hotel.
The car, which can hit speeds of 200mph even though most of London is limited to 20mph, has become a landmark in the area and even appears on Google street view.
Haleem Ali, security worker at King’s Cross station, is a fan of the ‘amazing car’ but noticed that it had disappeared in the last week or so.
He told Metro: ‘I couldn’t believe it. It was always there, I would take pictures of it. It’s a famous car, it’s such a beautiful car, the colour really sticks out.
‘I’m really confused one day here, the next gone, it’s a mystery. People would have their photograph taken with it. It was like a tourist attraction.’
Franco Mauriello, 23, a local cafe worker, said: ‘I’m Italian and we love cars. I miss it already. I hope it comes back. It’s a talking point around here.’
A fan of the car initially highlighted that the car had gone missing, posting: ‘The St Pancras hotel pink car has gone.’
In response someone joked: ‘He’s just out testing the rev counter on Oxford Street!’
However, the car should soon be back in its parking spot after staff at the hotel revealed the owner, who permanently resides there, had just taken it on holiday.

They told Metro: ‘The owner is the son of someone very rich. He is British. He has gone on holiday and taken the car. I don’t know if he is on holiday in this country or abroad.
‘He should be back with the car. He hasn’t moved out, as far as I know. He’s a very nice guy, very friendly. He occasionally moves the car but obviously this is for longer so it’s been noticed.’
A video was uploaded last year by user SoggySpin4ch, who opened a debate over the mystery non-moving supercar.
They posted: ‘When will this pink car move? This car has been here the whole pandemic.’
The clip got 1.3 million views and more than 78,000 likes, with many others commenting to say they’d noticed the sports car.
One person commented and said: ‘Omg yea! It hasn’t moved and I’ve been walking past here a few times over the last couple of years.’
Another added: ‘Wait… I walked past this like seven months ago… IT’S STILL THERE?’
One more said: ‘I literally live in Oxford and whenever I come to London see this car.’
A social media user posted in response: ‘I actually work at the St Pancras Renaissance Hotel, the McLaren is owned by one guest who permanently moved into the hotel near the start of the pandemic.
The car was originally a different colour but was given a pink makeover by a specialist garage.
