Former GB News host sacked as priest after mimicking Elon Musk’s ‘Nazi salute’
Former GB News star Calvin Robinson has been kicked out of his church after mimicking Elon Musk’s ‘Nazi salute’.
The gesture came at the end of a speech to the anti-abortion National Pro-Life Summit in Washington DC last week.
Robinson, who’s built a name for himself as an ‘anti-woke’ activist, was stood at the podium on stage as he recited Musk’s words: ‘My heart goes out to you.’
Then, like the tech billionaire, Robinson placed his hand on his heart and shot his arm out almost straight. He was met with cheers and applause.
When Musk performed the gesture at a Donald Trump rally days earlier, it drew instant comparisons with the ‘Nazi salute’ or ‘sieg heil’ associated with Adolf Hitler and the Holocaust.
Six million Jews were murdered in the genocide, which was commemorated on Monday.
It was a gesture the Anglican Catholic Church, to which Robinson belonged, described as ‘trolling’ that is ‘incompatible with a priestly vocation’.
A statement said: ‘The Holocaust episode of unspeakable horror, enacted by a regime of evil men.
‘We condemn Nazi ideology and antisemitism in all its forms. And we believe that those who mimic the Nazi salute, even as a joke or an attempt to troll their opponents, trivialise the horror of the Holocaust and diminish the sacrifice of those who fought against its perpetrators.
‘Such actions are harmful, divisive, and contrary to the tenets of Christian charity.’
The church added: ‘Robinson’s license in this Church has been revoked. He is no longer serving as a priest in the ACC.’
Robinson insists he is ‘not a Nazi’. He said: ‘I gave a talk at a pro-life event that seemed to go down well, I am pleased to have contributed to what I believe to be the most important of causes.
‘The enemy hates that, of course, and the attacks have been plentiful. That is fine and to be expected.
‘The joke at the end was a mockery of the hysterical “liberals” who called Elon Musk a Nazi for quite clearly showing the audience his heart was with them.
‘Context is key, but sometimes people ignore context to confirm their own prejudices. People see what they want to see.’
Robinson was first ordained by the Free Church of England in 2023, then going on to two other churches before joining the Anglican Catholic Church.
He had been refused ordination in the Church of England due to his politics and social media use.
While those couldn’t secure a home there, those traits did land him a gig presenting on GB News and as a right-wing commentator TV and radio.
GB News sacked him in 2023 after he backed fellow presenter Laurence Fox after the former actor made misogynistic comments about a female journalist while appearing as a commentator on Dan Wootton’s show.
Both Wootton and Fox have backed Robinson in this latest drama.
Fox said: ‘His bishop should protect him. Not throw him to the wolves. May god be his judge. Not you. Or I.’
Wootton said: ‘Like Jesus Christ himself, the persecution of Father Calvin Robinson for being a man of God is unrelenting, with even his own church now expelling him.’
