Man held over death of ‘Lady of the Hills’ who was found in stream 20 years ago
A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder, more than twenty years after the unidentifed ‘Lady of the Hills’ was found dead in the Yorkshire Dales.
For years, the woman was known only by the location she was found, because who she was remained a mystery.
In 2019, police made a breakthrough when her parents in Udon Thani, Thailand, saw a news article and came forward, saying it could be their daughter who they had not seen since 2004.
DNA testing confirmed that the woman was married mum-of-three Lamduan Armitage, who had been living in northern England at the time of her death.
She was found by walkers in a stream at Sell Gill, near Pen-y-ghent, on September 20, 2004, partially clothed and with nothing that allowed detectives to identify her.
Cold case detectives and family liaison officers visited Thailand in February 2023.
A man has now been held in custody for questioning on suspicion of her murder.
North Yorkshire Police said today: ‘A 61-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of the murder of Lamduan Armitage in 2004.
‘He remains in police custody for questioning.’
The force urged the public and media to ‘refrain from speculation’ and respect the privacy of family members and people connected to the case.
