Girl, 17, killed in shark attack while swimming off popular tourist beach
A teenage girl was killed by a shark while swimming off a beach popular with tourists in Australia.
The 17-year-old was in the water by Bribie Island, north of Brisbane, Queensland, when she was attacked today.
Emergency services rushed to Woorim Beach around 4.45pm local time.
Queensland Ambulance said they attended a ‘serious shark bite incident’ and treated the girl for life-threatening upper body injuries, 7News reports.
‘The female sustained life-threatening injuries and succumbed to those injuries just after 5pm,’ police said.
A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
Woorim Ocean Beach is the closest surf beach north of Brisbane.
