A 15-year-old boy has killed after sustaining ‘serious injuries’ after a school stabbing in Sheffield.

The victim was stabbed at All Saints Catholic High School, on Granville Road, at about 12.17pm today.

He was rushed to a nearby hospital but they were unable to treat his injuries and he was pronounced dead shortlu after arrival.

A 14-year-old boy has been arrested and is in custody. Emergency services are at the scene. Granville Road is closed from the tram stop to Fitzwalter Road.

According to local residents, the school is in lockdown and an air ambulance is reportedly on the scene.

The incident is the second time in less than a week the school has been put on lockdown, after staff and students were told to ‘stay put’ over ‘threats of violence’ between a ‘small number of students’ on January 29.

A parent, who asked not to be named, told the Sheffield Star today: ‘This is frightening to hear so soon after a previous incident and I hope and pray everyone is okay and the incident is resolved peacefully.

‘Now is not the time for recriminations but the school will have some serious questions to answer in the coming days.

A manager of a community centre near the school in Sheffield said ‘children are afraid’ as there has been an increase in crime in the area.

Amaan Ahmed, one of the managers at Castle Asian Community Trust and Mosque in nearby Norfolk Road, told reporters: ‘This area has seen an increase in crime recently. Cars are being stolen and vandalised, there has been an increase in anti-social behaviour – it is quite rampant in the area.

‘It is concerning, especially being a community centre.

‘We provide facilities for people to pray and we have children who are afraid.

‘We are very saddened to hear the news from the school.’

A South Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: ‘Teenager in custody following school stabbing. Following a stabbing at a school in Sheffield, a teenage boy has been detained by police and our officers are on scene.

‘At 12.17pm today (Monday, February 3) we received reports of a stabbing at All Saints Catholic High School on Granville Road in Sheffield. A 15-year-old boy is in hospital with serious injuries. His family is aware. Emergency services are on scene and the school grounds currently remain closed.

‘Granville Road is closed from the tram stop to Fitzwalter Road, and we are urging people to avoid the area while emergency services carry out their work. We would like to reassure parents of pupils that we do not deem there to be a further risk at the school and further updates will be shared when possible.’

A 2023 Ofsted report rated the school, which had 1,398 pupils at the time, as ‘good’.

Inspectors found that most pupils behaved well, and they said ‘a strong ethos of warmth and respect pervades this school’.
