Major motorway closed just before rush hour due to ‘serious’ crash
Drivers face rush hour chaos this morning after a section of the M6 was closed following a ‘serious’ crash between a lorry and a van.
All three lanes heading northbound between junctions 32 and 33 in Lancashire have been shut.
Emergency services are in attendance and National Highways has warned the motorway will remain closed ‘for some time’.
There is currently six miles of traffic queuing on the approach to the closure.
Lancashire Police said: ‘The M6 Northbound between junctions 32-33 is currently closed due to a road traffic collision.
‘We anticipate that the motorway will be closed for some time. We’d recommend looking for an alternative route.
‘We’ll update you here once the motorway is open.’
National Highways said normal traffic is not expected to resume until 9.30am at the earliest.
Traffic is already building towards junction 32 near Preston, where the M6 meets the M55 as diversions are put in place.
The closure is affecting all three northbound lanes up to junction 33 for Garstang.
