Two men busted while asking cops with drug-sniffing dogs for directions
Two men had their luck turn for the worse when they stopped to ask cops for directions – unaware they had drug-sniffing dogs.
Aarron Ragan and Allen Richards, both 27, pulled over to ask law enforcement officials how to get to Osage Beach, Missouri, last week, police said.
The officers – who were from the Osage Beach Police Department, the Miller County Sheriff’s Office and the Mid-Missouri Multi-Jurisdictional Drug Task Force – told the men they were already in Osage Beach.
Once the officers noticed that the pair looked impaired, they called their K-9 partner to check the vehicle, according to the police department. The dogs ended up leading them to a jar with 2 grams of methamphetamine.
The two men had no idea they had chosen to ask for directions as the officers were getting ready for a K-9 training session on January 31.
Ragan, of Sullivan, has been charged with drug possession as well as misdemeanor driving while revoked. His bond was set at $7,500 and he is being held at the Camden County Sheriff’s Office. His preliminary court hearing is set for Tuesday morning, KMIZ reported.
Richards, of Beaufort, has been charged with drug possession and had his bond set at $15,000. He is being held at Camden County Jail and had his preliminary hearing scheduled for February 24.
Osage beach is near the Lake of the Ozarks and about 160 miles southeast of Kansas City.
It is the latest bizarre drug bust in the US.
In January, a woman in the passenger’s seat of a vehicle pulled over in a traffic stop in Florida was carrying a few bags, including one that had ‘Definitely Not A Bag Full Of Drugs’ written on it. It turned out to contain methamphetamine, narcan, needles, digital scales and cut straws. Teryn Acri was charged with possessing methamphetamine with intent to sell, trafficking meth and possessing drug paraphernalia.
That happened after an October incident in Portland, Oregon, in which a couple driving a stolen car were arrested for having a bag that also stated it was ‘definitely not a bag full of drugs’ and had over 10 grams of meth and fentanyl.
