One dead and 25 injured after train crashes into lorry at level crossing
A 55-year-old man has died and 25 others were injured after a crash between a truck and high-speed train.
Six of those who were injured are in a serious condition after the crash outside Hamburg, Germany, on Tuesday.
Windows at the front of the train were left shattered after the train crashed into the truck loaded with rails on the crossing.
The 55-year-old man was resuscitated at the scene but later died from his injuries, a fire department spokesperson confirmed.
The train had 291 people on it at the time and those who were uninjured were taken to a nearby station by bus.
A woman on the train told the DPA news agency that a loud impact was heard when it suddenly braked.
Pictures from the scene show the truck’s load spread across where the crash happened.
It is not yet clear what caused the crash but the truck driver has been taken in for questioning.
While the area was cleared, one part of the railway line remains closed this morning.
The train was travelling north towards Bremen at the time it crashed.
