BT outage hits thousands of customers after connection glitch
BT internet is not working for thousands of people across the UK after the system went down this morning.
Around 5,000 customers are impacted and are reporting issues with connection and access to emails, according to Downdetector.
A BT spokesperson told Metro: ‘We’re aware that some BT email customers are unable to access their email on webmail and via the app.
‘We’re investigating the cause of this and we’re sorry for any inconvenience caused.
‘Alternatively, customers can switch off wifi and use mobile data to access their email. No other BT service is impacted.’
The problems started for people from around 5am this morning and the the number of customers impacted has increased.
People are already venting their frustration across social media this morning.
Dave Bradshaw wrote on X: ‘Pls can you explain why when your email service is down there isn’t a pinned message on here to tell us what the problem is and when we might expect it to be fixed?’
Brian Waters added: ‘Your BTinternet mail server is down! Cannot get mail.’
People have also commented on Downdetector to complain about the issue as well.
Finaly McKay wrote: ‘Internet was down yesterday number of hours and have woken up and it’s back down again. Not acceptable.’
The news comes after BT announced that it would hike mobile and broadband tariffs up to £3 a month from March for contracts taken out from April 10, 2024.
BT also owns EE and Plusnet and Plusnet announced it will increase Broadband prices by £3 a month from the end of March.
This applies to contracts taken out after July 11, 2024.
