The grocery store chain Trader Joe’s has recalled a popular frozen breakfast item over fears of contamination.

Trader Joe’s issued a recall notice for its Organic Acai Bowl item on February 14.

‘Out of an abundance of caution, please discard any Trader Joe’s Organic Acai Bowls, as the product may contain foreign material (plastic), or return them to your neighborhood Trader Joe’s store for a full refund,’ stated the company in a brief advisory.

The box features an image of the product in a bowl and states that it comes ‘with berries, bananas, granola and dried coconut’. The package size of the gluten free and vegan item is 10 ounces.

Neither the best by dates or UPC code were listed, but Trader Joe’s has urged customers to not consume any related products.

No sickness linked to the potential plastic contamination has been reported.

Anyone with questions is asked to call the company’s customer relations line.

The fruity item known to be healthy and tasty was sold for around $3.99.

It is the latest of several items that Trader Joe’s has recalled recently.

Earlier this month, Trader Joe’s recalled its branded tuna in Washington, DC, and 18 states including New York, Illinois and Pennsylvania, over the risk of botulism, which can lead to fatal food poisoning. There have been no illness or death cases linked to the voluntary recall.

In November 2024, organic carrots sold at Trader Joe’s and other supermarkets were recalled after being tied to a deadly E coli outbreak spanning 18 states.

And in March 2023, the grocer recalled a frozen organic tropical blend produced by Scenic Fruit Company that it sold in its stores, over possible Hepatitis A contamination. The recall was also initiated out of an abundance of caution, as Hepatitis A was not detected in the product.
