Mystery over human skeleton discovered at village home
A human skeleton has been found at a house in a small Lincolnshire village, prompting a large-scale police response.
Members of the public discovered the bones on Brookside Close in Ancaster, north-east of Grantham.
Police said they are unsure how old the remains are and no formal identification has taken place.
In a statement, they told local residents officers are continuing to examine the scene.
Ancaster has a rich Roman history, sitting on the major Roman road Ermine Street which connected ancient London with Lincoln.
As a result, the site is popular with archaeologists.
Pictures from the scene show a blue tent set up in the garden of a home in the village, with entrances taped off.
Lincolnshire Police said: ‘Officers were called to a property on Brookside Close, where the bones were discovered by members of the public.
‘At this stage, it is unknown how old these remains are, and formal identification is yet to take place.
‘There will be a visible police presence in the area as we continue to examine the scene.
‘We will release updates as and when we have them.’
