Ohio ranks among top three states with best drivers in country, according to Forbes study
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – Ohio ranks among the top three states with the best drivers in America, according to a recent Forbes Advisor study.
To find the states with the best and worst drivers, the media company compared all 50 states across 19 metrics, including the percentage of drivers who reported speeding in the past month, changing lanes without using a signal and tailgating. The data, collected from late June to early July, comes from a survey of 100 Americans in each state who have a driver’s license and are at least 18 years old.
Ohio ranked as the state with the second-best drivers, with a relatively low percentage reporting texting while driving in the past month (5%), changing lanes without signaling (7%) and speeding 10-19 mph over the limit (10%). Tennessee took the No. 1 spot as the state with the best drivers, followed by Pennsylvania at No. 3, Florida (No. 4) and Georgia (No. 5).
Hawaii was the state with the worst drivers, according to the study. The Aloha State had the highest number of drivers who reported changing lanes without signaling (20%), speeding 20 miles per hour or more over the speed limit (13%) and running a red light (8%). Hawaii was followed by Oregon, New Mexico, Wyoming and Alaska.
Forbes also found the most common poor driving behaviors in each state, with speeding coming out on top for Ohio, followed by eating while driving and speeding up to catch a yellow light.
The most common poor driving behaviors in the country are speeding less than 10 mph over the limit, with 39% of participants reporting doing so in the past month, eating while driving (29%), speeding up to catch a yellow light (22%), speeding 10-19 mph over the limit (14%) and texting while driving (12%). When it comes to the make of cars, the worst driving behavior typically comes from those operating a Chevy, GMC, Buick, Chrysler or Dodge, according to Forbes.
