ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The restaurant industry is ever-changing with restaurants opening, closing, relocating, or just doing their thing. Here’s a recap of the latest Capital Region restaurant news, January 27 to 31.
9th annual Schenectady Soup Stroll winners announced
Thousands of visitors sampled soup recipes from 32 participating restaurants at the ninth annual Schenectady Soup Stroll on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Attendees were asked to choose their favorites in an online survey and the results are in.
Amsterdam Soupfest winners announced
Amsterdam community members came out in droves Saturday for the annual Soupfest. Attendees were asked to choose the best and the most unique soups and the results are in.
Spanish, soul food buffet opening in Brunswick
Alexandra Reyes, the owner of Sabor a Campo in downtown Albany, is opening another restaurant in the Troy area. Express Buffet, which has a Troy address but is located within the town of Brunswick, is opening in the former Viejo San Juan space on Hoosick Road, across from Ted’s Fish Fry.
Restaurant lineup for A Taste of Amsterdam
The city of Amsterdam’s restaurant week, A Taste of Amsterdam, will run from Monday, February 17, to Sunday, February 23. 18 restaurants will be participating with special selections for $18.85 since the city was established in 1885.
Capital Region restaurant inspections return: Jan. 20-24
These are the inspections from January 20 to January 24 reported by the NYSDOH divided up by critical violations, non-critical violations and no violations. You can find a list of all restaurant inspections for the last several years on the NYSDOH website.
Broad Street Bagel Co. looks forward to expanding throughout Capital Region
The Capital Region may see more and more of Broad Street Bagel Company in the future. With a freshly opened location in Troy and more on the way, the kettle-boiled bagel shop is making plans to spread its footprint throughout the area.
Latham diner reopens after fire
There was a fire at Metro 7 Diner in Latham on Sunday around 10:45 p.m., per the Verdoy Volunteer Fire Department. Fire damage caused the diner to close for two days, but it will reopen on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
Participating lineup for the Ballston Spa Chocolate Fest
Ballston Spa’s 10th annual Chocolate Festival is set for February 7 in Downtown Ballston Spa from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Attendees can sample chocolate offerings for $2 from various businesses and vote for their favorites.
New eatery opening in historic Gloversville building
Life partners Lauren Day and Dan Lentini always dreamed of opening up their own brick-and-mortar business. That dream is coming true as they’re opening up Sage & Cedar at 33 N. Main Street in Gloversville.
Local restaurants, owners receive NYS Restaurant Association awards
The New York State Restaurant Association (NYSRA) hosted its annual Restaurant Industry Spotlight on Excellence (RISE) Awards at the Albany Capital Center on Tuesday. A couple of Capital Region restaurants and restaurateurs were among this year’s award recipients.
Ballston Spa café up for sale as owners look to retire
Mom & Pop’s Café & Catering, located next to Curtis Lumber at 885 Route 67 in Ballston Spa, has been up for sale for several months now. Owners Michael and Donna Venturiello are looking toward retirement.
