Meet Catskills Carver, a chainsaw carving artist
ROUND TOP, N.Y. (NEWS10) - Tom Morrissey, a Greene county native, is carving out his own space in the art world. This artist doesn’t use a brush, he prefers something a little sharper.
Morrissey started chainsaw carving on a whim. With help from an online community of chainsaw carvers, he’s been able to find his groove and hone his craft over time.
He calls himself 'Catskills Carver.' While he's known locally, he's made a name for himself online. He chronicles his work on Facebook and travels out of state to compete.
He credits his community of carvers for his education, and most importantly, his wife for supporting his career. His wife works for In Flight in Red Hook, which "empowers people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to reach for their hopes and dreams and support a meaningful quality of life."
During the filming of this NEWS10 segment, Morrissey carved a wooden owl that will be donated to In Flight for an upcoming blind auction. For more information, you can contact Morrissey at catskillscarver@gmail.com.
