Limo company operator appeals conviction to NY's highest court
ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The New York State Court of Appeals is working to decide if it will accept an appeal by the limo company operator involved in the Schoharie crash that killed 20 people in 2018.
Nauman Hussain lost an appeal with the state Supreme Court in November. In both appeals, his attorney argues that Hussain was treated unfairly when, in 2022, a judge tossed out a plea deal, which would have allowed Hussain to avoid serving time.
Instead, the judge gave Hussain 20 minutes to decide whether to accept a prison sentence or go to trial. He chose to go to trial and was convicted in May 2023.
Hussain is serving a five to 15-year prison sentence.
