Guilderland Fire Department ready for annual Valentine's Day Rose Sale
GUILDERLAND, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Valentine's Day is just a few days away, and a fundraiser for a local fire department is helping spread some of the love. The Guilderland Fire Department is offering multicolored flowers as well as chocolates from a local business.
Fire Chief Sean Smith said the proceeds help support critical programs for recruiting new volunteers and retaining firefighters. He also said having the community out to buy gifts for their loved ones also gives them a chance to meet the people they protect.
"It offers an affordable option for our neighbors and residents, but it also gives us touch time with them in a non-emergency situation," Smith explained. "Any chance we have to interact with the community outside of emergencies is a wonderful opportunity."
The rose sale, which is in its 23rd year, takes place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Feb. 12-14.
