Albany Symphony Orchestra announces 2025-2026 season
ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Classical music fans can look forward to another year of orchestral concerts in the Capital Region, as the Albany Symphony Orchestra announces its 2025-2026 season. Kicking off in October, the programming will feature both historic masterworks and more modern compositions.
"Our brilliant Albany Symphony musicians have never sounded better and are playing at the highest international level," said the orchestra's Heinrich Medicus Music Director David Alan Miller. "The beauty of their playing will take your breath away!"
The season will open with Igor Stravinsky's "The Firebird Suite" and "Cello Concerto" by Antonín Dvořák. The group will also perform a host of other historically significant works throughout the season, like "The Tempest" by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, "Symphony No. 10" by Dmitri Shostakovich and "Piano Concerto No. 2" by Sergei Rachmaninoff.
The Albany Symphony will also spotlight more recent pieces, including a new work by Argentinian guitarist Francisco del Pino, a percussion ensemble piece by Viet Cuong, whose compositions have been commissioned and performed by ensembles like the New York Philharmonic and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, and the world premiere of a violin concerto by Bobby Ge.
"Each concert includes the most brilliant orchestral pieces of all time alongside musical stories from living composers that will reshape America’s musical future," said the orchestra's executive director, Emily Fritz-Endres.
Throughout the season, the orchestra will be joined by various special guests, like 13-year-old composer Isaac Thomas and 18-year-old violinist Keila Wakao. Albany Pro Musica, a Capital Region-based choral ensemble, will accompany the group in November for a performance of "The Planets" by Gustav Holst.
Concerts will be held at Troy Savings Bank Music Hall, the Palace Theatre in Albany, Proctors Theatre in Schenectady and the Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Elements of the season will also honor the Erie Canal's Bicentennial in October and the 250th anniversary of the founding of the U.S. in 2026.
Albany Symphony Orchestra's 2025-2026 season will open in October and close in June 2026 at the American Music Festival. To view the upcoming season's full schedule and programming, or to purchase a season subscription, visit the Albany Symphony Orchestra website.
