ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Happy Valentine's Day! Meteorologist Matt Mackie says there could be some lake effect snow in the west with highs in the 20s and a wind chill in the teens.
Crews searched for someone who may have fallen through the ice underneath Collar City Bridge on Thursday. Also, Dontie Mitchell, from Albany, was charged in a 20-count indictment alleging predatory sexual assault. These stories, and more, are in your five things to know this Friday.
1. Crews search underneath Collar City Bridge in rescue operation
Emergency crews searched underneath the Collar City Bridge on Thursday for a person who may have fallen through the ice into the Hudson River.
2. Albany man indicted for alleged predatory sexual assault, rape
An Albany man sentenced years ago in a robbery case and commuted by former Governor Andrew Cuomo over the Raise the Age law was indicted on Thursday for alleged predatory sex assault charges. Dontie Mitchell, 45, pleaded not guilty to the 20-count indictment.
3. Stewart’s to sell 5 shops, including 2 in Queensbury
Stewart’s Shops is selling five of its locations. This comes after the company acquired 45 stores from the Jolley Associates convenience store chain in December.
4. Pittsfield superintendent to resign amid turmoil
“It is with a profound mix of emotion and gratitude that I share my decision to step down as Superintendent of the Pittsfield Public Schools, effective June 30, 2025,” announced Superintendent Joseph Curtis at Wednesday night’s school committee meeting. He has been in the role since 2021.
5. Baby Moses mom pleads guilty to smothering then burning him
On Thursday, Keri Mazzuca, 52, of Altamont pleaded guilty to manslaughter in Albany County Court for causing the death of her son “Baby Moses” in September 1997. She accepted a plea deal from Albany County prosecutors which reduced her original charge of second-degree murder.
