New dog training center to open in former Greenfield Tavern
GREENFIELD, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Greenfield community is set to celebrate the grand opening of a new dog obedience training center in a former tavern. PAWS Dog Obedience Training will open its 12.6-acre facility in the former Greenfield Tavern on Route 9N with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 2 p.m. on October 24.
The Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce said in a news release on Wednesday that the Greenfield training facility is the newest location for North Country PAWS for Obedience, LLC. The family-owned business is managed by husband and wife, Will and Lora Bacharach, alongside lead trainers Bri Rabine and Jen Wolfe.
Officials said founders Lora Bacharach and Rabine started the business in 2017 with a small facility in South Glens Falls, which closed with the opening of the Greenfield training center. The obedience training center opened a canine enrichment center on Route 4 in Hudson Falls in 2020.
PAWS Dog Obedience Training goes beyond training classes by offering activities for dog owners, including hiking, dock diving, and more, through the facility's Adventure Dog program. The new space in Greenfield also features an on-site pond that will be used in the facility's programming.
“Our entire property is being carefully designed with a dog’s best interests in mind,” Lora Bacharach said. “Being outdoors with nature puts the dogs in a better state of mind. Dogs are happiest when they can sniff, run, chase sticks and swim in a pond. We aim to be a one-of-a-kind resource center for owners and their dogs.”
The chamber of commerce said classes are already booked to 80% capacity, with a large number of clients coming from the recently closed facility. The training center also offers seminars and workshops, and features a retail shop that sells dog merchandise, locally baked treats, and more.
"We are delighted to welcome this successful business to Greenfield,” Greenfield Town Supervisor Kevin Veitch said. “It seems that the perfect business has found a perfect location. This beautiful and rural property has a big history and we’ve all been waiting for the right type of business to come along."
