10/25/2025: Nice Fall Weekend, Staying Chilly
The Latest Storm Tracker Forecast from Meteorologist Kevin Appleby:
High pressure to our north and west will provide enough of an influence to our weather this weekend to give us more sunshine and primarily dry conditions. Temperatures, however, stay seasonably cool as we wrap up October.
Morning sun will fade behind a few more afternoon clouds, but it won't turn as cloudy as recent afternoons. High temperatures, despite more sun, will slide down further, with upper 40s and lower 50s on tap. There will be a bit of a breeze to reinforce the cool feel.
Late-day clouds will stick around for much of the overnight hours, with temperatures dropping down into the upper 20s to mid 30s. Winds will go calm, so watch out for patchy fog Sunday morning where breaks in the clouds are able to develop prior to daybreak.
Skies will continue to feature a mix of sun and clouds on Sunday, but temperatures trend even cooler. It may be a struggle, even in Albany, to reach 50 degrees. Winds will be lighter than today.
Similar temperatures and sky conditions are anticipated for Monday. It will be a near carbon-copy of Sunday's weather, but with a colder (widespread temps below freezing) start to the day. Some moderation is in store by Tuesday, but temps still end up below normal. More of us reach 50 or above Tuesday afternoon.
Beyond Tuesday, higher than usual uncertainty exists in the forecast. One thing we are keeping an eye on (not for local impacts, but influences of what could be heading our way) is what will quickly become Hurricane Melissa. This very slow-moving storm, unfortunately, is expected to bring significant impacts to Jamaica and Haiti in particular with multiple days of rain and strong winds. Some will be measuring rain in feet, not inches. By the middle of next week, the storm will pick up pace as it lifts to the northeast, staying far enough away from the Lower 48.
However, Melissa's placement and track, along with a blocking high to our northeast, towards the end of next week will influence where a coastal system will develop much closer to home. It's not set in stone, but we may see a period of widespread rain Thursday into possibly Friday. Keep in mind, a fair share of guidance keeps this coastal low to our east keeping us dry. The data simply isn't reliable enough to know for sure at this time, so this is a forecast that you'll want to check back in with us in the coming days as more clarity is uncovered. Temperatures, however, regardless of the exact storm outcome, will stay on the cool side of things.
