GOP strategist uncorks brutal theory as to why Trump appointed top DOJ official
Long-time GOP strategist Sarah Longwell exposed the real reason President Donald Trump appointed Lindsay Halligan to lead the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Virginia during a podcast interview on Monday.
Longwell, who publishes "The Bulwark," discussed Halligan's appointment on a new episode of the podcast, "George Conway Explains It All (To Sarah Longwell)."
"Trump inserted an insurance lawyer into this role because he needed somebody who knew just enough to prosecute these cases but didn't really know enough to do anything other than take direction," Longwell said. "I just thought it was a really interesting window into how little understanding she has about the way that things work."
George Conway, a former conservative lawyer, added that the prosecutions Halligan's office is breaking are "unbelievably stupid." So far, she has filed indictments against Trump foes like former FBI Director James Comey and New York Attorney General Letitia James.
Trump has said on social media that he wants to see Sen. Adam Schiff (D-CA) prosecuted next.
"He could find someone to bring a case against Adam Schiff," Conway said. "He'll do it even if it's completely stupid because the cases against Comey and against Leticia James are just unbelievably stupid. Merits don't seem to matter to anybody in the White House."
