Phoenix Suns vs. San Antonio Spurs Predictions and Picks
The final day of the NBA season is always a tricky handicap because one has first to assess whether the game will have any significance to both teams, which teams will play their starters — and for how long, which teams could use some rest, and which teams will use the game as a test run for the postseason. Those are just some of the things one has to consider, but I think there is actually less of the unknown that one has to worry about in this matchup between the Suns and the Spurs.
The Suns could technically get the top seed in the conference with a win over the Spurs and a Jazz loss to the Kings. They trounced the Spurs 140-103 on Saturday, and they look determined to at least force Utah to have to win on the road in Sacramento. The key to this game is that Phoenix tips off several hours before Utah. So their objective will be to try to win the game and let the chips fall where they may.
As for San Antonio, I can’t imagine that anyone likes to lose on their home floor by 37 points. The Spurs will have had 24 hours to clear their thoughts, and I’d expect to see at least a more representative effort on the court on Sunday. While the Spurs injury report is a concern, five of the seven players are listed as game-time decisions, so it wouldn’t surprise me to see quite a few of them suit up — particularly to give a better showing going into their play-in game.
With that said, we have motivation on both sides in this game, in addition to a few trends that support the over. In addition, if the game does become lopsided, there’s the chance that both teams will give even less of an effort on the defensive end.
Sum it all up, and I think there’s a good chance this game goes over the total.
My model makes the total at 228.56 points, and I tend to agree with that projection. Hopefully, we’ll get a good offensive display from both teams as we put a bow on the regular season.
The Pick: Over 225.5
