Royals Rumblings - News for July 26, 2024
Are the Royals talking with the Angels?
David Lesky has a long list of potential trade candidates for the Royals.
Jazz Chisholm Jr. - I’ve heard varying things about Chisholm and both his market and who is really in on him. The Royals do like him, if like four different people I speak to are correct. One believes the Marlins are asking for a haul. Another doesn’t think it’ll take too much. If I’m being honest, I wouldn’t give up that much. Chisholm is tantalizing, but he’s an above average player, not a great one. And he’s an above average player who hasn’t shown an ability to stay on the field and has a personality that multiple people have mentioned could be an issue. Look, the potential is interesting enough that I’m not opposed to a deal for him. He has power and speed and has even worked some walks this season. He put up a decent defensive season in center field last year, but hasn’t been as good this year. Maybe he’d be good in a corner. Maybe he’s better suited for the infield, where he’s been good too. Count me out if the Marlins are asking for what I think they’re asking for, but that doesn’t mean he also wouldn’t be a boost to the team if the Royals acquired him.
Kevin O’Brien at Royals Reporter thinks Lane Thomas is a peculiar fit for the Royals.
Thomas is showing progress on the hitting end. I think the Royals, or any interested team, sees that and is willing to take a flier on Thomas with the idea that the process will finally lead to results in August and September.
The big question, of course, is how much that “flier” will cost a team, particularly the Royals.
The Royals must acquire more firepower in the lineup, especially at the leadoff position. Thomas certainly can fill that need and give the Royals some additional speed on the basepaths.
However, is Thomas worth a significant prospect package? Will his trade value be the same as Pham or cheaper?
Jon Heyman has a compendium of trade rumors.
The Royals are in touch with the Angels, and any of Ward, Rengifo, Carlos Estevez and Luis Garcia could make sense for K.C.
Writers at Yahoo Sports have some trade ideas.
Royals acquire OF Randy Arozarena from the Rays for IF Javier Vaz, C Carter Jensen, RHP Hiro Wyatt and RHP Ben Kudrna
Their farm system, unfortunately, is pretty barren, which means the only way to catch a big fish such as Arozarena is to part with a host of their highly ranked prospects. Ben Kudrna is K.C.’s best pitching prospect, a well-built righty with a three-pitch mix who just appeared as the Royals’ Futures Game rep. Carter Jensen projects as a high-OBP, average-power, low-average every-day catcher, something the otherwise stocked Tampa Bay system is bereft of. Javier Vaz, an undersized infielder who seemingly never swings and misses, is as Rays-y as it gets. And Hiro Wyatt was a cold-weather high school draftee last year who would be a nice developmental project for Tampa, which is always happy to take its time with pitchers.
