After finally breaking through to win a College Football Playoff semifinal and advance to the national championship game, it’s safe to say that Michigan’s players were feeling themselves while celebrating their Rose Bowl win.
One defensive lineman seemed to have even more fun than the rest though, unleashing a viral postgame interview calling out Alabama, the CFP selection committee and the refs all at once.
Cam Goode, a graduate student who has factored into the Wolverines’ deep defensive front, took advantage of his time in the spotlight to get some things off his chest. First, he remarked that Michigan was surprised to even face Alabama, instead claiming the team was “shocked” that Florida State hadn’t made the cut.

“We were more shocked that Florida State didn’t make it,” Goode said, celebratory rose in hand. "We [weren’t] worried about Bama. You guys saw the results. We got the dub, and that’s all that matters. The roses smell real good.”
Then, Goode pivoted to criticizing the officiating.
“We beat Bama fair and square,” Goode said. “We beat the referees and Bama, how ‘bout that?”

The comments quickly made their way around the college football world. Many pointed to Goode’s use of the words “fair and square” to allude to the Wolverine program’s sign-stealing scandal, while Florida State fans used it as more ammunition for why they believe they were snubbed from a playoff spot.
Even Michigan players were shocked that Florida State was railroaded by the CFP. Alabama could have shut up these naysayers but laid an egg. https://t.co/0Q5xOWPE1y
