Help needed: Almaty Botanical Garden appeals to Kazakhstanis
The organization published an appeal on its Instagram page.
"Botanical Garden staff help birds during the winter as a token of gratitude for their role in controlling harmful insects in the summer. In 2024, we installed 110 bird feeders across the garden, thanks to caring residents of the city. Now, it is important to keep these feeders stocked with food. While both our staff and visitors regularly replenish them, the food is still insufficient. Therefore, we invite everyone to join our annual winter campaign and bring food for the birds," the statement reads.
According to the Botanical Garden’s estimates, 20 kilograms of grain mix lasts for one week. On average, about 200 kilograms of feed will be needed from mid-January to the end of March.
"Food is accepted daily from 10:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. at the entrance pavilions. Inappropriate food will not be accepted," the organization clarified.

The Botanical Garden also specified what type of food is needed for the birds.
"Birds require unsalted and unroasted seeds, as well as ready-made grain mixes. The main thing is that the food must be fresh and not rancid," a representative of the Botanical Garden noted.
It is known that grain mixes for birds can become rancid, especially if stored improperly, exposed to moisture, or kept for too long.
The organization also reported that caring city residents have already donated 20 kilograms of bird feed. However, more is still needed.
"We will continue to accept donations throughout the winter. If we receive more food than necessary, we will be sure to announce it on our social media accounts," the representative added.
Previously, the Almaty Botanical Garden previously explained why visitors no longer see swans. It turned out that the birds had been "sent for wintering" in special facilities.
