Military reservists to be introduced in Kazakhstan: Defense Ministry outlined conditions

Tengrinews.kz - The Mazhilis of Kazakhstan has passed a law on reserve service, introducing the new concept of a "military reservist."
From now on, the Armed Forces of Kazakhstan will be able to ensure the guaranteed reinforcement of their ranks with citizens who have military training, both in the event of mobilization and during a state of emergency caused by natural or man-made factors.
Mazhilis deputy Yermurat Bapi noted that the development of the bill on reserve service was driven by the need to further improve the system of mobilization training and recruitment of servicemen.

"The proposed amendments will help replenish military units with trained personnel and create reserve forces ready for combat operations. Introducing this type of military service allows for the preparation of a certain number of citizens capable of fulfilling assigned tasks in peacetime without increasing the overall size of the Armed Forces," Bapi stated.

First Deputy Minister of Defense Sultan Kamaletdinov explained that joining the reserve would be on a voluntary basis.

"There will be outreach efforts among citizens, primarily those with military service experience. This includes individuals who have completed compulsory military service or served under contract in the ranks of enlisted personnel, sergeants, and officers. Participation in the reserve is voluntary—it serves as one of the social mobility mechanisms that facilitate the employment of retired servicemen," Kamaletdinov said in a briefing.

The law has been passed following its second reading and will now be submitted to the Senate for consideration.
Earlier, Sultan Kamaletdinov commented on the World Economic Forum’s report, which listed a potential armed conflict as one of the risks facing Kazakhstan.
